Sandalwood is a class of woods from trees in the genus Santalum. There are species native to India, Malaysia, Australia but Indian Sandalwood (Santalum album) is the most prized Sandalwood is very sacred in the Hindu Ayurveda and is known in Sanskrit as 'chandana'. The wood is used for worshipping the deities. In Buddhism, Sandalwood incense is burnt during prayer and meditation, revered for its ability to calm and focus the mind. In Aromatherapy, Sandalwood has many benefits. Its very distinctive sweet, soft and creamy scent induces relaxation and calmness, and promotes positive thinking, clarity and aids concentration.
