The evil eye (Greek: Mάτι, meaning "eye")(Hebrew: עין הרע‎) is a superstitious curse or legend originating in Ancient Greece and Rome, believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when one is unaware. It is a type of apotropaic magic. Talismans created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called "evil eyes".
