What is Krishna the God of?

Krishna is the god of love, tenderness and compassion. Hindu mythology portrays him as a prankster, a gentle lover, a universal supreme being and child-like God. The narrative and stories of Lord Krishna's life are referred to as Krishna Leela.

 

What does Krishna symbolize?

In essence, Krishna is the symbol for the supreme beauty and bliss of life. He is a symbol for luxury, beauty and happiness. He teaches us to live our yoga; meaning, to stay in union with God. He also tells us to do our dharma: our designated duty in regard to work.

 

Why is Krishna so important?

Krishna is perceived by most Hindus to be an avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu, who is regarded as the highest avatar. It is believed that all other deities are manifestations of him. Krishna is considered to be a warrior, hero, teacher and philosopher by Hindus.
